Kettwood

Puzzle game for iPhone

Kettwood

A puzzle on a real loom.

The warp is already on the loom and threaded through the shafts. All you control is the rule: which treadle goes down for each row, and later, which colour each thread gets. Nobody draws the pattern – it grows out of your choices, row by row, until your cloth matches the sample above the loom.

For iPhone. In English and German.

Two ways to move a pattern

Every level shows a small sample of cloth. You never colour a square yourself; you change the loom's rule, and the cloth follows. Any treadling or colour order that gives an identical cloth counts – there is no single “author's answer” to guess.

1 2 3 4
A 2/2 twill on its way. Treadle 3 has just gone down.
Treadling

Choose the treadle for every row

Threading and tie-up are fixed by the level. Press a treadle, the shafts it is tied to rise, the shuttle passes, and one row lies down. Weave the whole length of cloth, row after row; it counts once every row matches the sample.

Undo a row or unravel everything as often as you like.

Four dark, four light, on a plain twill: houndstooth.
Colour and weave

Set the colour order of the threads

Now the treadling is locked and the spools are yours. Tap a warp or weft spool to change its yarn, and the whole cloth recolours at once. Steps, stripes and houndstooth all come out of the same twill – only the order of colours changes.

Later chapters hand you treadles and spools at the same time.

Forty cloths, four chapters

Each chapter is a roll of ten cloths. Weave seven of them and the next chapter opens, so one stubborn level never blocks the way.

  1. First Threads

Treadles only. Plain weave, twills, broken twills – and the denim you are probably wearing.

  2. Colour Tricks

The weave is set; the colour order makes the shape. Gingham, steps and houndstooth in two sizes.

  3. Both Hands

Treadles and colours at once. Herringbone, diamond twill and bird's eye.

  4. Alpine Cloth

Loden twill, glen check, tweed herringbone and a dirndl check. Some looms here have six treadles.

When the cloth comes off the loom

A wardrobe of fabrics

Fourteen real fabrics, from tabby to dirndl check, land on the shelves as you play. Each comes with a short story and the draft it was woven from.

Sew something

Turn any unlocked fabric into a scarf, a cushion or a throw, swap in yarns you have already woven with, and keep up to fifty pieces.

Hints that teach

Show the first row or spool that differs, read the sample as a weaver's draft, or let the game fix one step. No limit, no cost.

At your own pace

Kettwood is calm on purpose. A level takes a few minutes, or as long as you like, and nothing is waiting to interrupt you.

Loom sounds are made on the device as you play. A quiet music box and haptics are optional; all three switch off in Settings.
